"Help Wanted"
This publication examines the history and present realities of unemployment in New York City, using a historical timeline as a foundation to show how long-standing systems shape today’s hiring landscape. Through sections on the pandemic, employment disparities, and shifting unemployment trends, the book highlights how economic crises disproportionately impact marginalized communities. By combining historical context with contemporary data, the project reveals that unemployment in NYC is not accidental, but structural and recurring. The goal of this publication is to bring awareness to these inequities and encourage more informed, compassionate conversations around hiring and labor in the city.
