"Violence, Power, Play"
These self portraits act as an extension of my developing thesis, Bearing Arms, which explores the history of women with swords through themes of violence, power, and play. By placing myself in domestic and familiar spaces while holding a weapon, the images create a tension between softness and strength. The work questions how women take up space in positions of power and how that power shifts depending on context. Overall, the series uses the body as both subject and site of inquiry to visually work through the ideas shaping my thesis.
